French

Learning another language is proven to support children in developing their critical thinking, problem solving skills, their ability to communicate effectively and helps them to embrace new ideas, experiences and challenges – all qualities of a Burnt Ash Learner.

Learning a language has strong cross- curricular links. By studying another language children become more aware of grammar, conjugation and sentence structure. Additionally, they build on their knowledge and understanding of root words from romantic languages. This will support our children to improve in both English and reading. Learning something as exciting as a new language naturally nurtures curiosity and openness in children. They are able to build upon the work they do in PSHE as they gain an appreciation of other backgrounds, customs and cultures. As children develop their fluency, they increase their ability to communicate across cultures and interact positively with people from other backgrounds.

French has been listed by The British Council as one of the top three most important languages to the UK. Through high-quality French teaching we are able to strengthen the area of the brain which is responsible for memory, speech and sensory perception within our children. In turn this improves children’s creativity, perception of the world and ability to concentrate. All of which will support them in areas across the curriculum.
