Art
Through high quality art lessons children are able to develop a different way of expressing themselves; learning to express their individual creativity whilst also making links with the wider world. They also develop transferable skills such as independence, judgement and self-reflection.
Art also nurtures a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world by teaching children to ask questions and make observations. Additionally, the subject exposes children to different cultures by studying a diverse range of male and female artists throughout history. Lastly, it can also help to build children’s resilience as tasks can require patience, re-thinking, analysing and trying again.
We teach an art curriculum that is structured around 5 key stages:
Exploring the artist/genre
Experimenting
Planning
Making
Evaluating
The topics and artists chosen have links to areas the children are exploring through their enquiry topics. This allows children to express their creative imagination as well as providing them with opportunities to practise the key processes of art: drawing, painting, printing, textiles and sculpture
Children alternate between blocks of Art and Design Technology every half term.
